CANARIES ON THE POLE

Jacques Foschia (be) clarinettes
Mike Goyvaerts (be) caisse claire

• BESTAANSREDEN → → an experience; two nails that crawl gently under your skin. They sing powerlessness, a human life and the useless. One does it with guitar, the other with schizofrenic texts. And if you listen very well, maybe you hear yourself.

• KINGRAY → → power rock trio band from Ghent. With their driving rhythms and harmonic melodies, this band brings a raw sound quality to the stage that is influenced by 60s rock, punk but also blues and diverse other genres.

• TIM ALBUS → → poet. Goes to the bone and further where it is possible, if it works with tenderness. Everywhere and nowhere he edits his little book and if it possible he encounters his public with a pen as a sword. Fresh ideas taken from life and written fresh where his heart/dish is. Further he likes to take the public hostage, lock them up and subjects them to his works. The world is his playground, and with his poetry he experiences for a lifetime eternal youth.

• REINOUT RINUS DE VOS → → makes soundscapes. born in 1979 at Lokeren. His parents, she watercolorist, he music teacher and meditation teacher initiates him into art, music and philosophy. In high school he studies audiovisual formation. About humour he is influenced by Marx Brothers, about cinema La Nouvelle Vague and the surrealism of Louis Buñuel. But the inspiration of Reinout is altogether contained in his moustache. It reminds at the same time the moustaches of Diego Velasquez and Salvador Dali.

• PHILIP VOLCKAERT → → poet from Ghent. For years he searches the experiment and brings poems flexible to the public. Words are thoughts, they bow themselves down to sentences, as a kind of logic, till the world becomes a poem.

• TBA …

Amélie Legrand

She is active within many different musical scenes, including noise rock, arabic music, free improvisation and film score composition.

She is dedicated to exploring the cello to its fullest potential and develop a form of expression which places the highest priority on the individuality of the performer and the spontaneity of each unique moment.
Her sound can be raw, noisy, minimalist or melodic. She uses her voice with electronics, working on poems between improvisation and rock and roll.

Amelie performs regularly on the European improvised experimental stage.
She collaborates with Adam Goodwin and Tatsumi Ryusui in the band Elmer Kussiac, which will release its first album in February 2018. They collaborate with various performers and artists such as Guillaume Cailleau, Britt Al-Busultan, Michyasu Furutani, Clara Bausch and Distruktur.

Amelie co-composed the music of the flm “In the Last Days of the City” by the Egyptian film maker Tamer El Said that was presented at the Berlinale 2016, more than 60 festivals and released now in 10 countries. Teresa Riemann - Berlin

(*1988 in Dachau) lived and worked as performance-artist,
musician (compositions /improvisations: drums, piano, voice), writer and psychologist since 2012 in Berlin.

Since 2010 she has been organizing and staging numerous concerts, readings and performances from Poland to Tunisia. She has been touring with various bands throughout Europe, and presented very intense solo or two-people performances on festivals, e.g. "Choufthouhonna", 2016, Tunis; "Queerfest" 2015, Poznan; "Zwischenraum Festival" 2015, Sotodo Berlin 2017, Onomatopoesietage Innsbruck 2017 (...) 2010 she has been co-founding the cultural space "Café Decentral" in Innsbruck, Austria.

Since 2012 she is part of the association XB-Liebig (Berlin), and has been curating various concerts, readings and interdisciplinary events.

Since 2017 January she is constantly on the road, living art and realizing projects to break the pullulating attitude of bystanding.

Sprung from the dark caves of the collective german subconsciousness, forging an outlet via the Berlin Noise scene, Berlin based musician, poetess and performance-artist Teresa Riemann explores, through her creative output, the darkness and even more-so the light, which can be found in the spaces we like to keep locked up far away from where anybody can see them.

After being taught how to play the piano in a classical way, excluding all passion from pure perfection, she started to evolve a genuine art of playing by learning the instruments by herself, starting with the electric guitar, later discovering drums.

From 2013 on she is active in different musical collaborations to be situated inside the broad field of new music that yet come with a raw energy and find themselves far from a hygienical tidiness of pure intellectualism.

She has played with various musicians in improvised music throughout Europe, mainly as a drummer with a strong voice. Apart from that, she developed her own compositions on piano with vocals.

In 2013 she recorded her first solo album "She has lost control again", partly composed, partly improvised, using guitars, voice and drums.

She has been part of various theatre projects, and in 2015 her play >punch me< was staged for the first time.

Since 2017 she's playing in ›Inutile Témoin‹ (Amélie Legrand - cello, voice / Teresa Riemann - drums, voice) and ›Naked in the Zoo‹ (Ruben Tenenbaum - violin / Teresa Riemann - drums, voice).

Every dogma is a coma would best describe her artistic approach.

Molecules Improvisation

„One. Singularity. Big bang. Incarnation. The first breath. One possibility. An infinite universe from one possibility. Unity.“

That’s how the Zurich based composer & improviser Tobias Meier describes the first part of his piece „Molecules“, which he composed exclusively for the Gamut Kollektiv.

It can be called a modular composition, consisting of twelve parts and giving the seven musicians the freedom to always chose what and when to play (or not to play).

These twelve elements coexist in this molecular universe, contrasting each other, blending together, at times in a concrete and distinctive way, at times sounding like a distant memory or an abstract thought.
The piece brings a strong collectiveness to light, at the same time allowing every musician to actively shape the piece - making it sound different and unique every time.

To finish in Tobias Meier’s words: „Molecules evolves as a possible universe that expands after the big bang, decelerates and almost comes to a standstill at the point of maximum expansion, then contracts again, accelerates and eventually ends in a singularity once more.„

Forewords

"The Gamut Collective stands for research, the unfinished, pieces in motion, progress; it is a breeding ground for ideas, experiments and processes.

Like musician’s initiatives from Berlin, Cologne, Vienna, Graz and Berne, the Gamut Collective wants to open up suitable spaces in Zurich and acts as a zone for communication between different musicians and artists coming from diverse stylistic and geographical origins.

The collective consists of seven young musicians from Zurich, who express themselves freely in their own music and, through their (mutual) exchange, create an agile collaboration and dynamic: a musicians’ pool, which is held together and supported by a shared artistic vision.
In addition to the annual Gamut Festival, the Gamut Collective also runs a concert series which creates an individual platform involving improvising musicians with every concert.

Each concert takes place at a different and unique place; hence, the collaboration with various scenes is being supported and conceptually integrated in new ways.
Furthermore in the fall of 2018 their Edition Gamut will be launched with two publications."
